The second race in the 2006 TBC Race series was held Saturday March 18 at cool yet sunny Jordan Lake. Given the light winds in effect for much of the morning, race director Michal Prussak set up a short upwind/downwind course utilizing the 5 mile marker, which is located about 400 yards straight off the point at Ebenezer.
Nine competitors were in attendance, an equal mix of formula and other wide style boards, classic longboards, and Dana Thalheimer's neutered former-longboard. While the wind did pick up for a time during the last three heats, ultimately the race was a contest of who could make the most of the light 3-12 mph wind, lengthy gust/lull cycles, and confused chop. As Charles Livaudais said "It was a beautiful day, but really... whatever meteorologist/golfer came up with the "breezy" forecast should be flogged."
Charles Livaudais remained invincible on his vintage Mistral Superlight and modern 9.0 Windwing sail, finishing first in every heat. Erik Staub and Bill Bradstreet, using wide-style boards, finished in second and third place. The upwind/downwind course proved to be very challenging from a tactical standpoint, and to some degree this course layout perhaps served as an equalizer between the the wide boards and the long boards.
